2nd floor bathrooms - not sure this is practical!

All of the new public restrooms along the gulf coast are being built on stilts like this one. Good place to get away from the storms? No elevators means I'll need to plan ahead so I'm not dashing up the steps at the last minute!

Practical Pier

Fishing, listening to the ocean, tossing back a couple of cold ones ... these piers look like the proper, laid-back way to enjoy the ocean

Bert JonesYacht Harbor

There's been a significant cutback on commercial fishing activity along the gulf coast since the Deepwater Horizon oil spill of 2010. Some of the businesses have turned to offering deep sea fishing charters and excursion boating but it's doubtful the economic impact will ever be made up with that industry.

My new gulf coast office

If you must work for a living it might as well be doing something you enjoy, if at all possible. Turns out I really enjoy hanging out at the beach. Now I just need to figure out how to get paid!

A mossy good time!

Fell asleep (in the car) without realizing this was overhead. When I woke up the sun had shifted, the shadows were quite strange-looking and for just a moment I did wonder what planet I was on!

Sunrise in Kiln, MS

Another look at this gorgeous sunrise in Kiln, MS.

Mother Nature's Wrath

This pier is almost completely gone, a result of the fierce storms that pound the gulf coast every year.

Fishing boats found

I was wondering where all of the commercial fishing boats were docked after visiting several ocean-side harbors and seeing only private or charter boats. Turns out many are kept deep inside Biloxi Bay where they are better protected from the storms.

Fog at the coast

Fog is one of my favorite times to take pics but it's also a challenging setting. Add to that the night time darkness and, well, I'll definitely bring the tripod next time I shoot under these conditions!

Piers are the center of beach activity

Look for one of these and you're sure to find a party near by. Bring a chair and a cooler, you'll want to stay for a while once you make it out to the open water!

First of many fabulous sunsets!

Looking forward to many more of these. I just happened to be outside when the colors started to turn so this was an unexpected pleasure. I'll be watching for this now that I know the sunsets here on the coast can be so spectacular.

Welcome to the blog!

Just getting started here. Have been at the coast for a couple of weeks now, discovered a few places to take pictures but will be looking for more daily so check back often to see what my latest adventures have uncovered here on the Gulf Coast.
